Scout and Ellie, The Giraffe Next Door
By Heather Leigh
Kids are supposed to be able to live their lives in the peace of junk food and video games, right? Right. Except for Scout. He is forced to live with an elephant in his backyard.
Ellie has her own cottage, convertible car, and elephant-sized attitude. She has been known to corral neighbors into dance contests, spray kids with chocolate syrup, and host too many parties to count. No wonder Scout has so much to complain about—he has to put up with so much fun every single day of his life! Sheesh.
In this wild episode, Scout is helping the giraffe next door date his big friend. Imagine what escapes an elephant and giraffe can get into when they are let loose in one regular, boring, normal town. And Scout has to be there amongst the ruckus of apples, pool jumping, and tightropes. How does that poor kid survive each day?
Of course, he is being so ultra nice because he is that kind of kid. It has almost nothing to do with the fact that the giraffe is paying him to chaperone on their dates.
Could anything be more dangerous than two beasts in love? Yes. Scout has also been rounded into performing a circus act with them. He is almost hopeful to live through this one.
The Scout and Ellie chapter book series is meant for kids ages 7 to 9. They are not to be taken seriously and laughter is expected. Every attempt has been made to make it an enjoyable read.
Warning, parents may also find laughter in the pages.
