This is a story about the journey of the baby sheep who is longing for friends. She meets different groups of farm animals (puppies, ducklings, bull-calves, and foals). She asks every group of the baby animals if she can play with them. The baby black sheep gets the answer that if she cannot do what they can (bark, swim, butt, rare up and kick), she cannot play with them. Finally, the baby sheep meets the kitten who is also an outcast because he doesn’t fit to the groups of baby animals either. They begin playing together. They have so much fun that all other baby animals want to play with them. The baby black sheep and the kitten accept everyone into their company. Soon, all the baby animals on the farm are playing together despite their differences.
What does it take to make friends?
Does your friend have to be exactly like you?
Does the difference matter?
Do you think that toddlers are too young for such questions? No, they aren't. Moreover, they will be dealing with them pretty soon in their real life. And before they are, they can get some answers from this book, the answers that will help them in their own journeys.
This is a good bedtime story, and at the same time, it is a perfect book for beginner readers.
