Mary-Ellen O'Keefe is a smart and happy little girl who loves to talk, sing, ask questions, and generally speak her mind. That is, until her first day of school where the unfamiliarity of a new and different environment makes her nervous and shy and causes her to go on an unexpected and very unusual "Word-Speaking Diet". "This is strange! It’s not normal! Mary-Ellen's never quiet! It was like she was on some sort of Word-Speaking Diet!"
Unfortunately, Mary-Ellen's sudden bashfulness at school prevents her new teacher and classmates from getting to know what a great little kid Mary-Ellen really is. This "shy-acting act" goes on for weeks and eventually, after a gentle pep-talk from Mom about the importance of speaking up, it's up to Mary-Ellen to decide if she'll be able to muster the courage and the confidence to once and for all end her "Word-Speaking Diet" and finally let her schoolmates hear her amazing voice.

Having the opportunity to live and grow-up as a third culture child played a huge part in how I see the world today. I was born in the UK and migrated to Africa as a wee dot, which was just the beginning of my journey, after which I ventured on to America, New Zealand and finally back to Europe where I currently reside. This lifestyle gave me the chance to see how amazing and incredible our Planet Earth really is. Many years ago I thought about developing a character that could educate and entertain the children and youth of the world. I wanted to share the experiences of the people I had met, the way they lived their lives, what they did for fun, the foods they ate and the multicultural global lifestyles they led. My family was always my top priority, and it was important to spend the precious growing years with them, so the publishing projects were put on hold. Now that our lovely children are full grown and off on journey's of their own, I have the much needed time on my hands to focus on all the other wonderful children out there, and my characters are coming to life. I hope you will join me on my edutainment adventure.

Before the medical industry became such a powerful force in our country, most folk would run to the kitchen instead of the doctor to treat many of the ailments that send us packing our kids off to be poked, probed and stuffed with harmful chemicals. Most folk don’t know that many of those prescriptions we get for our conditions do more harm to our bodies than help. Home remedies are not only natural and more beneficial but also treat many illnesses and conditions faster than any antibiotic. Every mother should have a copy in their kitchen.
Most of what I know has been passed down to me by my mother and to her by my granny. When my daughters left home early to find work, I decided I’d better get down to writing what I wanted to tell them. The result is this book: A collection of Granny’s home remedies.
As a work-at-home author and single mother of two very active kids, I found incredible value in Granny’s Big Ol’ Book O’ Home Remedies. The remedies are real, provide great results and I’m happy knowing that my kids aren’t getting pumped with harmful chemicals that will solve one problem and create more. I now have a cupboard in my kitchen for the ingredients I use most often and have quickly become a home remedy expert. Thank you so much.
